Little Sisters of the Poor in India
At the service of the elderly Poor
SPIRITUAL LIFE
We have inherited a rich spirituality from our foundress,
Saint Jeanne Jugan

Christ centeredness – Imitation of Christ in his poverty, gentleness and humility.

Sacred Heart devotion to the Eucharist, the Word of God and the Poverty of spirit a desire to live the joy and simplicity of the Beatitudes and to identify ourselves with the lowly.

Trust in God’s Providence to provide for all our needs, both spiritual and temporal, together with a lively devotions to Saint Joseph, patron and protector of our Congregation.

Marian devotion: Saint Jeanne Jugan taught us that to come to the heart of Mary is to come to Jesus. We take Mary as our Mother and our model of total devotedness to Christ and his mission.

A spirit of solidarity and universality: we embrace the riches of all peoples and cultures, pray for the needs of the universal Church and believe that solidarity and sharing are expressions of our common bond as members of one human family, since we are all children of our heavenly Father.

Our daily lives are marked by a regular rhythm of prayer
The day begins with meditation on Sacred Scripture followed by Lauds - Morning Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours sung in community.

The summit of our prayer is participation in the Eucharistic celebration together with our elderly Residents who desire to participate in it.

A half hour visit to the Blessed Sacrament each day gives witness to our faith and our lovefor Christ. It renews in us the grace of the Eucharistic sacrifice.

Daily recitation of the Rosary, lectio divina and spiritual reading, daily examination of Conscience and Sacrament of Reconciliation on regular basis, all these help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and our lives centered on Christ.

Habits of silence help us cultivate intimacy with God. Our meals are usually taken in silence. We also enjoy several moments of retreat throughout the year. These help us to refresh ourselves at the fountain of God’s love. We find in the person of the poor the Lord whom we adore in prayer. All our actions derive from the source of intense prayer life.
