FEASTS OF STS. ANNE & JOACHIM - RESIDENTS DAY AT THE LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR IN SWEET SECUNDERABAD! 25TH & 26TH JULY 2024!

Pope Francis always highlights the importance of young people being with the elderly and his desire to see closer relationship between them. One of our sisters had very bright idea of approaching the nearby school to get the students involve in some way to honour the Elderly Residents by writing letters to them. We received many letters from the students - some were very moving.

Prayer Service

On the eve of the feast of Sts. Anne and Joachim feast of the Grandparents, we had a prayer service. The residents came with procession with lighted candles and placed them at the picture of Sts. Anne of Joachim. This followed by prayer service and rosary, with an introduction taken from Holy Father’s message for the IV World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly. At the end all received new clothing – sarees for the Ladies and pants and shirts for the Gents. They appreciated this gift very much.

The family of late Mrs. Celine Fernandes distributes gifts to the Residents

26th July - The Holy Eucharist was celebrated for the intentions of the Residents, followed by festive Breakfast. All the old folks were in their best. The daughters of Late Celine Fernandes gifted our Elderly a zip bag full of varieties of toiletry items. The family was overjoyed to see a beaming smile on the faces of our Aged Residents. One of the daughters told a sister that the preparation of the packets brought a lot of cheerfulness to them, as they were down with grief on the death of their Mother.

The same day at 10.30 am our Residents were again ensembled together in the hall. They were animated by Mrs. Jean Thomson our Associate Jeanne Jugan and the sisters with lively music, dances and games. They really had a good time, fun and laughter. Yes, the house was in a festive mood. Our Mother Jeanne Jugan must have been very pleased to see the Elderly happy.
